The Tin Man
Nick Chopper, also known as the Tin Woodman or the Tin Man, is a character created by American author L. Frank Baum. He first appeared in the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and subsequently featured in many other titles within the series.
Baum was inspired to create the character while working as an editor for a magazine focused on decorating shop windows. He drew upon the imagery of figures made from metal parts, which he had previously built for shop displays, as well as the trend of using tin figures in late 19th-century American advertising and political cartoons.
