Thorin Oakenshield

Thorin Oakenshield is a fictional character who appears in J. R. R. Tolkien’s 1937 novel The Hobbit. As the son of Thráin II and the grandson of Thrór, he serves as the leader of the Company of Dwarves, a group dedicated to reclaiming the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug.

During the exile of his people from Erebor, Thorin becomes the King of Durin’s Folk. Further details regarding his background can be found in Appendix A of Tolkien’s 1955 novel The Return of the King, as well as in Unfinished Tales.
