Depiction of Scarecrow

Scarecrow

The Scarecrow is a character from the Land of Oz created by author L. Frank Baum and illustrator W. W. Denslow. When he first appears, he is only two days old and expresses a desperate desire for a brain, believing he lacks one due to his inherent naivety. However, he consistently demonstrates great intelligence throughout the novel and is eventually recognized as the wisest man in all of Oz, even though he insists on crediting the Wizard for his mental abilities.

Despite his wisdom, the Scarecrow remains aware of his own limitations. He is content to relinquish the rulership of Oz to Princess Ozma to serve as one of her trusted advisors. In this role, he balances his responsibilities by spending more of his time having fun than providing counsel.
