Queequeg

Queequeg is a character from Herman Melville’s 1851 novel Moby-Dick. Of royal Polynesian descent, he left his homeland driven by a desire to visit Christendom. He is visually distinguished by his tan skin and striking facial tattoos.

After meeting the narrator, Ishmael, in the third chapter, the two develop an unlikely friendship. Once they board the whaling ship Pequod, Queequeg serves as the harpooneer for the mate Starbuck.
