Depiction of Pierre Bezukhov

Pierre Bezukhov

Count Pyotr Kirillovich, known as Pierre Bezukhov, is the fictional protagonist of Leo Tolstoy’s 1869 novel War and Peace. As the favorite illegitimate son of the wealthy nobleman Count Kirill Vladimirovich Bezukhov, he is connected to one of the richest families in the Russian Empire.

Within the narrative, Pierre maintains a close friendship with Andrei Bolkonsky. Tolstoy drew upon his own life to create the character, basing Pierre on himself more than any other figure in the novel.
