Gollum

Gollum is a fictional character from J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth fantasy world. Originally a Stoor Hobbit of the River-folk who lived near the Gladden Fields, he was once known as Sméagol.

He was introduced in the 1937 novel The Hobbit and later became a major character in The Lord of the Rings. His name, Gollum, was derived from the horrible swallowing noise he made in his throat, a trait that developed after he was corrupted by the One Ring.
