Elizabeth Lavenza

Elizabeth Lavenza is a fictional character who first appears in Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. In the original text and most film adaptations, she serves as the fiancée of Victor Frankenstein.

Her background differs depending on the version of the novel. In the 1818 edition, she is depicted as Victor’s cousin from an Italian bourgeois family in Milan. Conversely, in the 1831 version, she is portrayed as a poor Italian orphan who is adopted by the Frankenstein family.
