Wilkie Collins

William Wilkie Collins was an English novelist and playwright. He is best known for his 1860 mystery and sensation novel, The Woman in White.

His 1868 work, The Moonstone, established many of the ground rules for the modern detective novel. It is also considered perhaps the earliest clear example of the police procedural genre.
