Thomas Mann

Paul Thomas Mann was a German novelist, short story writer, essayist, and social critic. A philanthropist and the 1929 Nobel Prize in Literature laureate, he is best known for his highly symbolic and ironic epic novels and novellas. His work is noted for its deep insight into the psychology of the artist and the intellectual.

In his writing, Mann provided an analysis and critique of the European and German soul. He achieved this by drawing upon the ideas of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Friedrich Nietzsche, and Arthur Schopenhauer, while incorporating modern versions of German and Biblical stories.
