Thomas Hardy

Thomas Hardy was an English novelist, poet, and architect. A Victorian realist in the tradition of George Eliot, his work was influenced by Romanticism and the poetry of William Wordsworth.

Hardy was highly critical of many aspects of Victorian society. His writing frequently focused on the declining status of rural people in Britain, particularly those from his native South West England.
