Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American author and abolitionist who came from the prominent Beecher family. She is best known for her 1852 novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which depicted the harsh conditions experienced by enslaved African Americans. The work reached millions as both a novel and a play, proving highly influential in the United States and Great Britain by energizing anti-slavery forces in the North while provoking widespread anger in the South.

Throughout her career, Stowe wrote over 30 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and various collections of articles and letters. She remained a significant figure of her time, recognized both for her extensive body of writing and for her public stances and debates on the social issues of the day.
