Daniel Defoe

Daniel Defoe was an English writer, journalist, merchant, and spy. He is best known for his novels Robinson Crusoe, Moll Flanders, and Roxana: The Fortunate Mistress, published between 1719 and 1724.

Recognized as one of the earliest proponents of the English novel, Defoe helped popularize the literary form in Britain alongside contemporaries such as Aphra Behn and Samuel Richardson.
