Charles Nordhoff

Charles Bernard Nordhoff was an American novelist and traveler born in England. He is best known for The Bounty Trilogy, a series of three historical novels written in collaboration with James Norman Hall, which includes Mutiny on the Bounty, Men Against the Sea, and Pitcairn’s Island. During World War I, Nordhoff served as an ambulance driver and as an aviator for both the French Air Force’s Lafayette Flying Corps and the United States Army Air Service, eventually reaching the rank of lieutenant.

Following the war, Nordhoff settled on the island of Tahiti. There, he and Hall authored a number of successful adventure books, many of which were later adapted for film.
