Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a British writer and physician best known for creating the fictional consulting detective Sherlock Holmes and his assistant Dr. Watson. His four novels and fifty-six short stories featuring these characters are considered milestones in crime fiction. In 1912, he published The Lost World, his first work featuring Professor Challenger, which gave its name to a subgenre of speculative fiction.

A prolific author, Doyle produced over 200 stories and articles, four volumes of poetry, and a number of works for the stage. In recognition of his contributions, he was knighted by King Edward VII in the 1902 Coronation Honours.
